Government and Defense

Bunker Supply works with an ever-growing number of government agencies to deliver innovative products and solutions that improve the experience, safety, situational awareness, and quality of life for first responders, law enforcement and military service members. Below are a handful of projects that Bunker Supply has worked on with the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.

Navy

Bunker Supply works closely with the US Navy on multiple projects. Through multiple Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs and a Collaborative Research And Development Agreement (CRADA). Bunker works on increasing warfighter safety and enhancing the capabilities of the Fleet through human-centered design.

Programs

  • The Naval Aircrew Emergency Armor Release (NACEAR) is an ongoing SBIR initiative with U.S. Navy to develop an innovative, affordable body armor release system capable of retrofit into existing equipment. NACEAR is designed to allow aircrew to selectively jettison negatively buoyant hard plates in the event of a crash or emergency landing in water without needing to shed other mission-critical equipment secured to the flight vest.

  • The Medium UUV Enhanced Rack (MUUVER) is a proposed universal stowage and conveyance solution for Medium Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (MUUVs) under two feet in diameter aboard amphibious transport docks. The solution will be stackable, improving deck footprint efficiency, and will allow for in-situ inspection while maintaining compatibility with existing auxiliary systems that perform launch, recovery, refueling, recharging, and rearming. This enables increased onboard stowage capabilities while retaining the ability to move several UUVs simultaneously in a swarm deployment scenario.

  • The X-TEC Wetsuit is Bunker Supply’s premiere textile technology for increasing individual warfighter protection against adverse environmental conditions. Formulated with the highest grade limestone neoprene and amplified by a graphite mesh weave for enhanced thermal performance, X-TEC performs comparably with industry-leading offerings. Bunker currently offers extensive customization potential in order to maximize value, comfort, and safety for the end user, and is actively exploring continued opportunities for co-development with other stakeholders.

Air Force

Bunker Supply has worked closely with US Air Force officers to understand and address the extreme events that pilots are exposed to in their service. Through these learnings, our team of engineers has set out to design assistive devices to reduce injuries and increase comfort for pilots and aircrew.

Programs

  • Auxiliary Collar for Neck Injury Prevention (ACNIP). Bunker Supply has developed a concept under the guidance of the US Air Force for an auxiliary collar for neck injury prevention, incorporating two separate and distinct mechanisms for neck injury mitigation into a single device worn around the neck. As the use of helmet-mounted devices has increased, so has the incidence rate and severity of reported neck pain and injury resulting from G-loading. A deployable airbag system and adjustable mandibular supports work independently to provide protection from acute and chronic neck injuries, respectively.

Homeland Security

Bunker Supply is equipping Department of Homeland Security agents with critical gear to increase their situational awareness and efficacy in the field. By leveraging and enhancing emerging technologies, Bunker enables improved communication and heightened rates of solution adoption.

Programs

  • In collaboration with goTenna, Bunker Supply has designed and manufactured the Rugged Expedition Case (REC), delivering enhanced connectivity in a convenient, universal package for agents in the field. By incorporating feedback from end users, Bunker has created a solution primed for mass-adoption.

  • Bunker is developing a suite of accessories to enhance the usability of the Team Awareness Kit (TAK), a geospatial infrastructure and situational awareness app for developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory. It allows for precision targeting, geographic intelligence, navigation, and data sharing and is used across various Federal, State and Local Agencies. Through design, engineering, and supply chain efficiency, Bunker is meeting the needs of operators and managers throughout the chain of command with this full product offering.

Disaster Relief

Through an extensively integrated and robust supply chain, Bunker has been able to efficiently provide aid where it is needed most by delivering emergency supplies and PPE in times of need. These sourcing exercises demonstrate Bunker’s ability to move quickly and support mission-critical objectives.

Programs

  • As the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe in the spring of 2020, medical care professionals were in desperate need of ASTM-rated masks. Bunker Supply recognized that this issue transcended national borders as countries around the world were faced with a demand for masks that they struggled to fill on their own. The team leapt into action to do their part in the fight against COVID-19. They connected via LinkedIn with a representative for a team in Colombia who confirmed that the country was in dire need of surgical masks to contain the spread of the virus, and in just six weeks, Bunker delivered one million 3-ply surgical masks to the Colombian government for distribution.

  • Bunker developed and procured a range of PPE products, including masks and gloves as well as alcohol wipes and other disinfectants for distribution to civilians and professional organizations alike.
